Mental Health Services Conference - Adelaide

26/07/2005

As a direct response to my book, No Middle Name, I have been invited to speak at the Carers' (Family) Forum as part of the 15th Mental Health Services Conference to be held in Adelaide on 30th August. This is an international biannual conference organised by the Mental Illness Fellowship of Australia with keynote speakers coming from Italy, the United Kingdom, and Australia. The conference attracts over 1000 mental health clinicians, managers, consumers, carers, researchers, educators, and policy makers. My role will be to "tell my story" about the difficulties I experienced caring for my mentally ill son. I will also speak about bereavement following my son's suicide. But I also intend to focus on the many positive aspects of Riley's life. The purpose of the Carers' Forum is to 'provide opportunities to share experiences and learn as we journey together'.
